Las Vegas Top Agent Amy Groves describes establishing her successful real estate career as a series of happy accidents. “I just sort of fell into it,” she says with a laugh. It started in the early 90’s, when she purchased her first home. “It wasn’t my original intention, but it ended up being a flip house,” she explains. “I caught the bug for flipping houses and did that for a few years with an agent helping me buy and sell. Then when I moved to Vegas in 2003 I decided to get my own real estate license.”
From there, Amy started to build a network of people who were buying and selling investment properties. “That gave me the idea open my own brokerage, which I did in January of 2006.” Now, as she prepares to celebrate her tenth anniversary in business, the company includes a property management division that manages several hundred individual properties, as well as an HOA management division managing nearly 50 HOAs. “I have a great team and my agents work really hard to keep it all going,” Amy says.
The ability and willingness to educate clients gives Amy and her team a competitive advantage. “It’s very important to us to help our clients establish realistic expectations and get them to understand the process and the market,” she says. “If we can’t educate the client about what it is that we do, we’ll recommend they go somewhere else. That’s how we end up with really great clients who stay with us for years.”
Staying in contact is one way the team builds client loyalty. “With our residential homebuyers, we don’t just disappear once they move in like a log of agents do,” she says. “We’ll bring things like a small gift or a voter registration card — things people need but may not think about during the course of moving. That way we stay in their minds and they know they can still reach out to us.”
Amy is one of those rare, fortunate people who can say she truly enjoys what she does for a living. “Every day when I get up I’m happy to come to work because I love what I do,” she says. “This is a really fascinating industry; real estate is probably the most expensive thing someone will ever buy and I find it really rewarding to help people through that process, whether it’s a first home or a resale home or an investment property.
In fact, working with investors is one of Amy’s favorite aspects of the business. “I love working with investors. When I get a new investor and I can show them what’s possible, they’re thrilled,” she says. “I think it’s exciting to show people that real estate can be enriching for everyone. You can make more money for yourself and your family in real estate than by working. I love teaching people that and then watching them do it.”
Giving back to the communities that support her business is important to Amy. Her husband is a retired Army veteran, so most of their efforts are centered on Operation Wounded Warrior and the Fisher House, which offers the families of soldiers wounded in combat a free place to stay near the hospital where their loved ones are recovering. “There is currently a Fisher House going up in Las Vegas,” Amy says. “Anything to do with veterans, we support.”
Looking ahead, Amy sees nothing but exciting opportunities. “We have purchased the building where our office is and have plenty of room to grow,” she says. She’s also pursuing another passion project. “I’m looking at getting more involved in politics and planning to run for the Nevada State Assembly.”
